Do make the time to see The Cleveland Orchestra at Severance Hall. I took some friends from out of town and they were dazzled. Tickets are much more affordable than for other major orchestras.

If you've got the chance, make time for a Cleveland Orchestra concert. As Germany's leading weekly _Die Zeit_ wrote in the late 1990s, Cleveland is home to an orchestra of which one can say that while it is not the best in the world, there are none better. The Shostakovich 5th I heard at the Blossom Music Center in July under Music Director Franz Welser-Moest was amazing: the most transparent performance of a piece of orchestral music that I have ever heard. And the renovated Severance Hall is breathtakingly beautiful, and has superb acoustics. There are many great orchestras in the United States in addition to the usual "Big Five," but the Cleveland Orchestra is truly something special. Treat yourself!

In the summer a trip out of town to Blossom Music Center is a great idea.
